The valuer/surveyor posts are open to suitably qualified applicants on a permanent contract, with consideration given to candidates seeking either full time, or part time hours. Trainee positions are also available at a lower salary grade. The technical assistant posts are open to candidates holding a surveying related HND (or equivalent), though applicants lacking surveying qualifications will be considered, with placement at a lower scale starting at £25,692.

    The Grampian Assessor & Electoral Registration Officer is seeking Clerical Officers to join a team dealing with all the functions of the organisation – electoral registration, council tax banding and valuation for rating – and the successful candidates will be required to undertake a wide variety of duties within this demanding environment.

    You should be highly motivated and have a flexible and positive approach to all aspects of work.  Your communication and organisational skills must be of a high standard as you will be required to work on your own initiative and as part of a team liaising with the public, other public sector bodies and external agencies.  Excellent attention to detail is a crucial attribute and you should be able to uphold the highest levels of confidentiality.

    Annual leave may be restricted during certain times of the year such as before and during election and canvass periods. You may be required to work additional hours during busy periods, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.  Our staff are currently working on a hybrid part office/part home working basis.

    Applicants must demonstrate a high standard of literacy and numeracy and should have a minimum of 5 standard grades or equivalent.  Highers and the ECDL would be desirable and the successful candidates will be encouraged to work towards a formal qualification in Electoral Administration.

     (2)        JOB PURPOSE AND WAY OF WORKING

    As part of a team, provide an efficient and effective clerical service within the functions of the Grampian Assessor & Electoral Registration Officer.

    (3)        MAJOR TASKS

    • Using computer systems to update voter, valuation and council tax band information.
    • Dealing with enquiries from the public and other organisations in person, by email, by phone and in writing.
    • Issuing questionnaires and other forms, monitoring their progress and processing returned forms.
    • Mail handling and the filing, scanning and photocopying of documents.
    • Undertaking reception duties, directing telephone calls, assisting with the annual electoral canvass and providing support at the time of elections and referendums.

    Salary etc: £37,756 – £40,527 or £44,410 – £47,370 p.a. depending on experience plus Essential Car User Allowance, Pension Scheme & Flexible/Home Working.  Relocation package up to £6,480.

    The successful candidate will benefit from a rewarding workload of diverse subject types in both the domestic and non-domestic sectors and from a valuable pension scheme, car allowance, flexible working hours and 35 days annual leave (including public holidays) rising to 39 days after 5 years’ service.  

    Applicants should ideally hold a surveying related HND or equivalent (Salary scale £33,892 – £36,173). Applicants lacking surveying qualifications will be considered with placement on a lower scale starting at £25,692 per annum, with possible progression to the higher levels noted above via the Assessor’s Career Grade Scheme.
