Minister for Cabinet Office, Matt Hancock,  has announced this afternoon –

‘Following discussions with the Electoral Commission and strong cross-party support expressed in the House of Commons, we will introduce secondary legislation to extend the deadline for voter registration until midnight tomorrow.’

‘Having taken the decision today, we think it is right to extend to 23.59 on Thursday 9 June, to allow people who have not yet registered, the time to get the message that registration is still open and get themselves registered.’

This means that if you have not already received your poll card and have not recently updated your registration details, the original deadline for doing so has been extended from 23:59hrs Tuesday 7 June to 23:59hrs Thursday 9 June.

The deadlines for delivering an application to vote by post or proxy remain unchanged – applications to vote by post must be received by 17:00hrs today, applications to vote by proxy must be received by 17:00hrs on Wednesday 15 June.

Please remember, you only need to register to vote if your circumstances such as your name or address have changed, or you were not already registered.
