The European Parliamentary Elections (Appointed Day of Poll) Order 2019 that sets 23 May 2019 as the day appointed for the poll at the next general election of Members of the European
Parliament came into force today (10 April).

This means that Electoral Registration Officers and Returning Officers are now preparing for the elections to take place on 23 May 2019.

The European Parliamentary elections are open to British, EU and Commonwealth citizens who will be 18 or over on 23 May.  British citizens who live overseas are also entitled to participate.

If you are a citizen of the UK, Republic of Ireland, Malta or Cyprus, you are eligible to register to vote at all UK elections including the European Parliamentary elections.  If you are a citizen of the one of the other 24 EU countries you need to be registered as an elector in the Grampian area and also complete a separate European Parliament Election registration form if you wish to vote in the election on 23 May in the UK rather than in your former home country.  European Parliament Election registration forms will be issued to all EU citizens already on the electoral registers in the Grampian area during week beginning 15 April 2019.

If you have not already applied to have your name added to the electoral register, or have recently changed address and have not updated your registration details, please do so as soon as possible. Do not leave applications to the last minute.

The deadline for registering to vote in these elections is Midnight on 7 May 2019

The deadline for applying to vote by post is 17:00hrs 8 May 2019, providing that you have already registered to vote.
