The Annual Canvass of households in connection with the
compilation of the REGISTER OF ELECTORS started at the beginning of September.
At the end of the first month almost 154,000 forms had been returned and
reminders were issued to 92,000 households on Monday 6 October 2003. If you have
not received a form or a reminder by Friday 10 October please contact
your nearest office or telephone the Helpline on 01224 664848.
If you do receive a reminder PLEASE COMPLETE AND RETURN IT AS
SOON AS POSSIBLE, even if you have sent the original form back.
If your name does not appear on the Register you will not be
able to vote and you may also experience difficulty in obtaining credit eg for a
mortgage etc.
You are able to choose whether your name appears in the copy
of the register (the Edited Register) which is available for general
purchase and may be used by anyone for any purpose.
All names must appear on the Full Register which is available only to
legally defined individuals and organisations and which can only be used for
prescribed purposes eg - elections, law enforcement and credit checking.
